SREA attended and sponsored First Book’s annual fundraising event, Speed Read, which was held at the Union League. It was very entertaining to watch local celebrities try to read as many words as possible in fifteen seconds from Dr. Seuss’ famous book, Cat in the Hat. The money raised from this event will be used to buy new books for children of low-income families.
The event was hosted by Kathy O’Connell, Kid’s Corner host, and Debbi Calton, mid-day host from WMGK. Alicia Vitarelli (6 ABC anchor), Howard Eskin (94 WIP Sports Radio and Fox 29 radio personality), Marilyn Russell (95.7 Ben FM disc jockey), and John Giannini (LaSalle Basketball Coach) were a few of the local celebrities who read at the event. Some of the silent auction highlights were: Jet Blue Airline tickets, a weeklong beachfront Condo in Marco Island, Fl, a one year membership to The Barnes Foundation and a Kiehl’s skincare party.
